Journals from a rookie Dad and Husband…
Journals from a rookie Dad and Husband…

So this morning I got up and became the chef of the morning. I made french toast with a side of sausages. And I don’t mean  buying the frozen stuff and defrosting it. I’m talking about  making it from scratch.  Diego loved it, and Reina loved it. It is rare that I cook at home, but here and there i will dabble in the kitchen. I will admit I like cooking and I am a huge fan of Iron Chef, but I am too lazy to do it.

I have learned that being a husband and father is an infinite work in progress. You never quite make it, there is always room for improvement. Woman are designed and wired for detail. So they will always..always find something…It is what it is. The magic word is, “yes dear”, of course dear”, and “you are right”. Trust me fellas. Being a husband is awesome and being a dad as well, but it is alot of work. My wife is an amazing wife and mother. I don’t think I could fully function without her…

We spent sometime at the mall today and I sat back and watched Diego play with Blake, the  Johnson chicks and random kids. There was a point when Diego ventured off on his own and tried  to climb up this plastic turtle. Out of no where some random kid started hitting Diego in the face. The kid must have done it about 3 or 4 times. I sat there and watched as my little guys character grew but wished he knew how to defend himself. It burned me inside but its tough love making him stronger. I wish I was a little kid again.  I’d walk over there and show that bully with a tiny fist to the nose. But I let it be. My little guy was tough, he stood there unshaken! He stood there looking at “the gooch”, and stared him down until the gooch’s mom came and whooped him for my son. Tough love is a tough thing to do! You can take someone out the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of them. I want my son to be respectful, peaceful and loving, but when push comes to shove you better believe he will be ready to protect and defend himself, his brothers and sisters, and those around him. Especially  what he is passionate about…The joys of fatherhood…gotta love it!!! It is a work in progress…you feel me?
