Misfortunes make Giants Chapter 6
Misfortunes make Giants Chapter 6

(the thoughts and stories I share in Misfortunes make giants do not necessarily represent nor reflect those of Life pointe church.)

It was 1979, my mother was working in a factory. My parents came to this country with nothing in pursuit of a better future for their children. Little did they know God had a perfect plan for them and for their kids. At times it seems there is no plan and we’re part of this planet by chance. It feels like we are no more nor less then an insect. We merely exist for the sake of existing. But that isn’t the case. At the time my mother was also 9 months pregnant. She was but weeks away from her due date. Well it turned out that this factory was going to be raided by the Immigration. As we are all aware, there are many immigrants that come to this country in hopes to find a better future. That was the case for my mom and dad. Though i won’t get into details on my view of immigration, the reality is that many people are thinking of the future for their kids. The countries they come from are not the greatest economically. So they come here to work the jobs many wouldn’t even consider. Anyhow, so my mom was working at this factory in order to make ends meet at home. It just so happens that on this day her place of employment would be raided. Many of her friends would be deported, including others she did not even know. My mother shares with me that  she patiently waited in a room to either be arrested or deported. At the time my mother was not an American citizen and she did not have all the legal documents necessary. All she knew was that she had to do whatever necessary to survive and provide the promise for her kids.

The officer walked into the room and saw my mother. My mother recalls the woman looking at her,  she was dressed in her law enforcement attire. The woman looked at my mom’s belly, made eye contact with her and told her to leave and go home. My mother didn’t hide, runaway, nor retaliate. She walked out the front door. When God has a plan for you, there is no need to hide nor be scared. He will do the necessary for you to walk out the door. (Picture thousands of Israelites walking out the front door being led by Moses..thats crazy!!)  2 weeks later  after the raid, I was born. 28 years later I am here fulfilling the plan God has for my life, the plan he had way before I was even created. In family, In ministry, and in music!

A few weeks back I asked my mom what was her job at the factory back in 1979. She said she, “I made guitar cases”.
